Play

Recently we created games. The brief was to create a game that could be played within the screen soon so my group decided on a game that could be downloaded to a smart phone particularly concentrating on the iPhone as it is the most popular of the smart phones and has a very successful app store. The game we came up with was called Ice Breaker, this involved 1st years imputing information about themselves and then there peers answering questions about them, therefore getting to know each other easier.

Here are some screenshots of how the game would of looked.

We also used Prezi to present our ideas, this is the presentation we used:

Not getting on well with blogging!

I have found to neglect this whole blogging thing. There has been so much going on during lessons and I have failed to note anything down which I am truly regretting!

But now lessons keep on getting more and more exciting I feel I should keep this going so I can look back!

Recently in digital media tools we have been talking about animation which excites me so much, especially stop motion. Stop motion or claymation is something I have grown up with and being a child who loves to experiment and owning a webcam, computer, a freeware stop motion program and a pile of lego as big as me at the time I taught myself lots of techniques. Unfortunately my interest went due to my education and music pretty much taking over my life, doing something I enjoyed as much as animation seemed like a sin! But during reading week I have dug out my webcam, downloaded more software and got back into it and although a little rusty I have enjoyed it more than ever!

Here is an example of a stop motion animation I created in sixth form.

It's something that I hope to develop and learn more about over the next few years.

Wikis

Last lesson we made Wikis on wetpaint central. When I first thought of Wiki's i thought them to be unreliable and generally frowned upon as anyone can change the information on them which usually will turn out to be false information. Learning more about Wikis and the website we would be using it changed my opinion of them. Unlike wikipedia, wetpaint central can allow users to create their own discussion groups which can be blocked to the public which allows information not to be changed without permission from the publisher.

When creating the website I found wet paint to be a very dull tool for creation and a hard one to use too. The website itself is not particularly striking either which I found made it harder to use with websites now priding themselves on how they look. Another flaw in the wikis was the absence of a tool to insert links, pictures, videos and other multimedia objects into the threads or comments. And although this was available in the description of the wiki not every discussion could necessarily be shown on that.

Overall I found wet paint central to generally be a poor, hard to use website which needed improving greatly. Although I would use Wikis again on a different website as I felt it was a good tool for discussion and presentation with classmates and alike.

Prezi

After using Prezi in both my A Level studies and the Mobjects presentation last week I have found it to be a pretty useful presentation tool and one I plan to use in my future studies. I like it because it changes the usual boring powerpoint presentation and although there are websites like slide share for powerpoint so presentations are available online Prezi automatically uploads online and therefore is a useful tool to share information with other class mates.

Mobjects

Today we had to bring in an object that meant something to us. During my summer holidays I went on holiday to Turkey with 27 of my friends.. it was an experience! During my holiday I bought a book, partly because it reminded me of something off tomb raider! This object will always remind me of my summer as it is one of the only things I bought besides alcohol! I have not thought of anything I feel is good enough but I am so desperate to fill it with something memorable!

To document this we used prezi.com, an online presentation tool. I have used this before during my A Level media studies and I really think it is a tool I will use again and again, mainly because it take a boring powerpoint and makes it interesting also being able to embed it and share online is a handy thing to be able to use.

Introduction Task

What has been your interest and experience of media to date?

I started out doing media studies when I joined secondary school. As a subject I had never come across or done before I found it very it very interesting. I took up media studies at GCSE level. This lead to me doing work experience at Insight Moving Images, this was my first experience of making a production that a company would be using to advertise and campaign. When choosing A level subjects I decided that working in the media was what I wanted to do so I took both Media and Film Studies. This gave me a wide range of experience for making different productions such as magazines, photo storyboards, a short film and a documentary. Editing video was what I was most interested in, I started to use editing to help with school videos and work on personal projects at home to develop my skills and interest in the subject.

What would you like to be in the future?
While practical work was my main interest I also began to learn about new media technology in my final year of sixth form and how easy it was for the audience to interact with media and create there own media to gain an audience. In the future I would like to develop new ways for anyone to interact with what they are watching, reading and listening to to widen the experience of a simple media text.

What media are you interested in as both a consumer and producer?
As a consumer I am interested in both films and TV. I am interested in a wide range of genres of film for example I like animation films, horror and comedy.  I rarely read newspapers and magazines or listen to the radio.

As a prodcuer I am interested in new media. But also after creating an extract of a documentary in my A level coursework I became interested in documentaries. They are not something I had ever watched before but since studying them I have become a regular consumer of documentaries.
