Wikis

Last lesson we made Wikis on wetpaint central. When I first thought of Wiki's i thought them to be unreliable and generally frowned upon as anyone can change the information on them which usually will turn out to be false information. Learning more about Wikis and the website we would be using it changed my opinion of them. Unlike wikipedia, wetpaint central can allow users to create their own discussion groups which can be blocked to the public which allows information not to be changed without permission from the publisher.

When creating the website I found wet paint to be a very dull tool for creation and a hard one to use too. The website itself is not particularly striking either which I found made it harder to use with websites now priding themselves on how they look. Another flaw in the wikis was the absence of a tool to insert links, pictures, videos and other multimedia objects into the threads or comments. And although this was available in the description of the wiki not every discussion could necessarily be shown on that.

Overall I found wet paint central to generally be a poor, hard to use website which needed improving greatly. Although I would use Wikis again on a different website as I felt it was a good tool for discussion and presentation with classmates and alike.
